The American Trail

Jack and his friends went to see the brand new American Trail at the Zoo this morning.  The trail boasts grey wolves, sea lions and seals amid exhibits replicating the animals natural habitats.  It was a perfect morning for a Zoo outing, warm with a slight fall breeze.  The humidity is finally gone and it seems like a crime to not be outside taking advantage of this amazing weather.

Here is Jack and his friend Tommy in front of the seals and sea lions exhibit, which includes state of the art pools that mimic the animals' natural coastal habitats.  The exhibit includes a couple of different observation levels, but the boys were most amazed by the level where they could see into the water and see the seals swimming by them.  (Ed. note: Jack is not really that much larger than Tommy, but in this picture he looks enormous!)

Jack kept banging on the glass and calling for the seals who would them readily swim by him, making him even more excited!  I think the chocolate milk he drank on his way into the Zoo probably didn't hurt amping up his excitement either.

Our boys weren't the only ones mesmerized by the seals and sea lions; as you can see it was a popular place for the under 3 feet set.

Later we went and looked at the grey wolves - which look just like the dogs Jack plays with in the dog park, only a bit bigger.  Jack and Tommy were trying to figure out how to climb in to the exhibit to play with the wolves, luckily there were a couple levels of fences.

No trip to the Zoo is complete without a look at the elephants! Look, the elephant is getting closer!

And way closer!  Wow!!!  We showed up right when the elephants were doing an agility and tricks demonstration.

These elephants are so cool and so big!

The elephants were so cool that Jack, with the help of his friend Luc, tried to get into the Elephant Staff Only area so that they could play with them.
